2027 GR86 Performance Package: Check the Brakes and Dampers Before Ordering
Toyota's 2027 GR86 offers a factory Performance Package that belongs on a parts buyer's checklist. Before choosing pads, rotors, wheels, springs, or dampers, identify the equipment on the specific car—not just the model name.
What Toyota has confirmed
Toyota's 2027 GR86 announcement identifies an available Performance Package for both the GR86 and GR86 Premium. It includes Brembo brakes and SACHS dampers. Toyota describes four-piston front and two-piston rear brake calipers with 12.8-by-1.3-inch front rotors and 12.4-by-0.79-inch rear rotors. The 2027 car retains a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine, and Toyota lists both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions for the two grades.
The aftermarket takeaway is not that every GR86 takes the same parts. A package that changes brake and damper hardware adds another equipment question to answer before selecting replacement or upgrade components.
Confirm the exact factory configuration
Start with the vehicle's model year, VIN/build information, grade, and optional equipment. Do not infer the Performance Package from a trim name alone: Toyota says the package is available on both grades, not standard on every car. A visible Brembo caliper can help identify the brake system, but the build record and installed components should agree before an order is placed.
If the car is not yet in hand, ask the seller for the build sheet or option list. For a car already in the shop, document the front and rear calipers, rotor dimensions, and damper part numbers where practical. A previous owner may have changed parts, so model-year marketing material is not a substitute for inspecting the actual vehicle.
Pads and rotors: match the hardware, not just the badge
Toyota's stated rotor dimensions and caliper piston counts are useful identification clues for the factory Performance Package. They are not, by themselves, an aftermarket part-number interchange. Before ordering, match the application listing and actual caliper/pad shape, rotor diameter and thickness, axle position, and any supplier installation notes. Confirm whether a listed pad or rotor fits the package-equipped car, the standard-brake car, or both.
The same discipline applies to wheels. A wheel that bolts to a GR86 is not automatically proven to clear the Brembo caliper. Verify wheel diameter, offset, spoke profile, and a manufacturer brake-clearance template or physical test fit for the exact wheel and brake combination. Do not rely on a visual guess from a product photo.
Suspension: verify the damper pairing
Toyota also specifies SACHS dampers in the Performance Package. For replacement dampers, springs, coilovers, and related hardware, identify the installed damper and the part maker's stated application before choosing a pairing. Check mounting details, travel, spring compatibility, ride-height limits, and alignment requirements for the specific kit. A claim that a component fits an earlier GR86 does not establish 2027 package fitment without manufacturer confirmation.
A better order request
When you contact a parts specialist, send the year, VIN or build sheet, transmission, Performance Package status, and clear photos or part numbers of the existing brakes and dampers. Add intended use—street, autocross, or track—so pad compound, tire, and suspension recommendations can be evaluated for the actual vehicle. SMG Speed Shop can help narrow the choices, but we will not call an unverified 2027 application a confirmed fit.
