LS Fest East 2026 Is Almost Here: 9 Checks Before Your Performance Car Hits the Road or Track

Holley’s 2026 LS Fest East is scheduled for September 11–13 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. For anyone driving, racing, autocrossing, showing, or simply putting serious highway miles on an LS- or LT-powered vehicle, the useful part of event preparation happens before the trailer door closes—or before the car leaves the driveway.

This is not a list of “race-day tricks.” It is a practical pre-event inspection built around repeatability, safety, and avoiding the small problems that can consume an entire weekend.

1. Start with the event and class requirements

Confirm the current event schedule, registration details, class rules, safety requirements, and any technical-inspection standards that apply to your combination. Holley lists LS Fest East for September 11–13, 2026, but competitors should still use the event’s official pages and racer communications for final instructions. Rules can differ by activity, elapsed time, vehicle configuration, and safety equipment.

Do not assume that equipment accepted at a test-and-tune night automatically satisfies an event class or sanctioning requirement.

2. Inspect tires cold—not after the first pass

Check tread condition, sidewalls, valve stems, bead areas, wheel fasteners, and tire age. Record cold pressures before travel and bring an accurate gauge. If the vehicle runs separate street and track tires, inspect both sets and confirm that the wheels clear the brakes, suspension, and body throughout steering and suspension travel.

For drag use, launch pressure is only one variable. Track temperature, vehicle weight, sidewall construction, wheel width, and power delivery all affect the useful setting. Make small changes and keep notes rather than chasing a number from another combination.

3. Verify wheel torque and driveline hardware

Torque wheel fasteners with a calibrated wrench using the wheel and fastener manufacturer’s specification. Inspect driveshaft fasteners, axle hardware, U-joints or CV joints, differential mounts, and visible transmission mounts. Look for shiny witness marks, displaced paint marks, fresh metal dust, or seepage that suggests movement.

High horsepower does not excuse vibration. A new vibration should be diagnosed before repeated high-speed operation because shaft balance, operating angle, joint condition, tire condition, and critical speed are separate concerns.

4. Pressure-test the cooling system and inspect airflow

Check coolant level only when the system is safe and cool. Inspect hoses, clamps, radiator seams, reservoir connections, belts, tensioners, and electric-fan operation. Make sure the radiator and heat exchangers are not packed with rubber debris, leaves, or road grime.

A car that behaves normally on the street can still expose marginal cooling during staging, back-to-back passes, autocross sessions, or extended idling. Log coolant temperature and, when available, engine-oil and transmission temperatures so “it felt hot” becomes useful data.

5. Treat fuel pressure as a logged safety channel

Inspect fuel lines, fittings, rails, filters, pumps, wiring, grounds, and any flex-fuel plumbing. Confirm that nothing is rubbing, heat-damaged, or weeping. For boosted or high-output combinations, verify that fuel pressure responds correctly under load and review commanded versus measured air-fuel data with the calibration strategy in mind.

Do not use a single clean idle reading as proof that the fuel system is healthy at peak demand.

6. Check oil level, catch cans, and fluid containment

Verify engine-oil level using the procedure appropriate for the vehicle and oiling system. Inspect the filter, drain plug, cooler lines, remote-filter fittings, catch can, power-steering system, transmission, differential, and brake hydraulics. Empty serviceable catch cans and document how much they contain; a sudden change can be diagnostic.

Clean old residue before the event. A clean surface makes a fresh leak easier to identify during inspection.

7. Review the tune and data log before adding power

Save the known-good calibration and confirm that the logging channel list captures the variables needed for the combination. Useful channels may include engine speed, throttle angle, pedal position, manifold pressure, lambda or air-fuel ratio, fuel pressure, ignition timing, knock response, injector duty or pulse width, temperatures, boost-control data, transmission behavior, and torque-management activity.

Make one controlled change at a time. An event weekend is a poor place to stack untested hardware, unfamiliar fuel, and a new calibration without a baseline.

8. Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, and safety equipment

Check pad and rotor condition, fluid level, leaks, pedal feel, wheel bearings, steering play, ball joints, rod ends, shock or strut leaks, spring seating, sway-bar hardware, and visible chassis fasteners. Verify seats, belts or harnesses, helmet condition, fire extinguisher mounting, battery retention, and any required cutoff or containment equipment.

Replace questionable safety parts based on the manufacturer’s service life and the applicable rules—not appearance alone.

9. Pack for verification, not improvisation

Bring the correct fluids, charging equipment, tire gauge, torque wrench, basic tools, spare fuses and relays, laptop and cables, log sheets, weather protection, and the parts that are genuinely specific to the vehicle. Label calibration files and record the starting setup.

The goal is not to carry an entire shop. It is to arrive with a verified baseline and enough equipment to make measured decisions.

Build a repeatable baseline

The quickest event cars are not always the ones with the newest part installed Friday night. They are often the ones whose owners know the normal pressures, temperatures, torque checks, fluid levels, and data traces—and recognize when one of those changes.
