Better Starting and Charging for LS-Powered Vehicles

From daily-driven trucks and SUVs to Camaros, G8s, Chevrolet SS sedans, LS-powered CTS-Vs and LS-swapped builds, a healthy high-current electrical system matters. Aging cables, corroded connections and marginal grounds can cause voltage loss, slow cranking and inconsistent charging, especially when the engine is hot.

The SMG Universal LS Hot Start Kit brings the same 0/2-gauge welding-grade copper cables, professionally terminated ends and weather-sealed connections used in our Corvette kit to a broader range of LS-powered applications. Underhood and remote-battery configurations cover LS-powered vehicles with either battery layout.

Choose Your Kit

Underhood Kit

Includes replacement starter power, alternator charge and primary engine-ground cables. Choose this configuration when your battery is mounted under the hood.

Full Remote-Battery Kit

Includes the underhood cable set plus the battery cables for remote or rear-mounted battery configurations. Choose this configuration for a factory remote battery or relocated battery.

Starter-Included Options

Both configurations are available with the AC Delco mini starter used in our Corvette kit and the LS retrofit plug adapter. Verify starter mounting, engagement, wiring and clearance for your engine, transmission and chassis before choosing a starter-included option. Cable-only kits do not include a starter or adapter.

Vehicle Details for Your Order

Please enter your year, make and model in the order notes at checkout, along with whether the battery is under the hood or mounted remotely. For an LS swap, include the LS engine and the vehicle it is installed in. Mention any battery relocation or significant electrical-layout changes so we can account for your setup when assembling your kit.

For a C5 or C6 Corvette, choose our Corvette-specific Hot Start Kit.

The kit addresses cable-related voltage loss. It does not repair a weak battery, faulty starter or alternator; diagnose the cause of a starting or charging problem before replacing parts.

Basic Installation Instructions

Disconnect the battery negative terminal first, followed by positive, before working on the cables. Identify and document both ends of each original cable. Replace the corresponding circuits one at a time, keeping all factory connections accounted for. Confirm the corresponding circuits and terminal connections before removing the original wiring.

Use clean contact surfaces and applicable manufacturer torque specifications. Route and secure cables away from exhaust heat, moving parts, sharp edges and pinch points, with adequate slack and protection through panels. Preserve required factory power distribution and circuit protection. Verify polarity and connections, then reconnect positive first and negative last. Check starting and charging operation. Professional installation is recommended when adapting the kit to your vehicle.

Support Policy

Defective-product replacement is covered. Individual installation walkthroughs are not included. Consult a qualified installer for vehicle-specific routing, adaptation or diagnosis. Questions unrelated to a product defect may be handled as paid technical service at SMG's standard shop rate.
